Error 5041. MODIFY FILE failed. File '%.*ls' does not exist.

I am trying to set the file growth of a database file to
10% and I get the message:
Microsoft SQL-MDO (ODBC SQL-STATE 42000)
Error 5041. MODIFY FILE failed. File '%.*ls' does not
exist.
All I know is that this system error message is of
severity 16.
DO you have any ideas?
