Error 87 while installing SQL Server 2005

Hi everyone!

I'm not sure if this is an old issue, but I couldn't find it in any thread. Here I go:

I downloaded SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition from the MSDN site; but when I run the installation wizard I get this error:

Errors occurred during the installation

Error 87 installing .NET Framework 2.0

The parameter is incorrect

And then I have to cancel the installation. This machine meets the hardware requirements, and it already has the .NET framework 2.0 installed. Humm, what else? It's a Windows 2003 Server SP1 machine...let me know if you need more information.

I've been trying to figure out a solution, but I finally gave up

I'm trying to install Team Foundation Server, but first I have to install IIS 6.0 (done), SQL Server 2005, Share Point Services....and I'm afraid that the TFS Installation Wizard will ask me to dance 'Macarena' or something like that ??

Ejem, sorry for the whining. Well, does anyone out there know what can I do in order to successfully install SQL Server 2005? Any help will be appreciated

Thanks in advance!

This issue is solved. It was all about the way I burned the DVD.|||

Hello,

I've got the same error. How do you resolve it?

What different way must I take to burn the dvd right and get to install the SQL succesfully?

thank you very much in advance. I'm deseperate.

I'll give you more details.

I'm trying to install BizTalk Server 2006 in a PC with windows 2000 professional sp4, and first I must install Visual Studio 2005 and Sql 2005 Server among others. The three aplicactions are trial versions downloaded from the MSDN site and the three are spanish versions.

Both (Visual and SQL) uses .NET framework 2.0. I've been succesful installing the Visual, which comes with NET framework 2.0, but when I've run the installation wizard of SQL 2005 from the dvd, I've got the same error above (error 87) and the unique exit is to cancel the installation.

First I've searched for a solution in msdn soporter. I've found this article

Error message when you install SQL Server 2005: "Beta components detected"

Article ID : 919394 Last Review : June 5, 2006 Revision : 1.0

Bug #: 449253 (SQLBUDT)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft SQL Server 2005, you may receive the following error message:

Beta components detected.

This problem is likely to occur when you install SQL Server 2005 on a computer that has a beta version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 installed.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Microsoft .NET Framework installer (Dotnetfx.exe) detects beta components that block the installation. The SQL Server 2005 Setup program does not detect the components that may prevent the .NET Framework installation. For example, if you have installed a beta version of Visual J# 2005, you experience this problem when you install SQL Server 2005.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must uninstall the beta components. Then, try to install SQL Server 2005 again. To find whether beta components that prevent the installation have been installed on your computer, run the Dotnetfx.exe program. The Dotnetfx.exe program displays a dialog box that contains the name of the beta components that prevent installation.

Note The Dotnetfx.exe file is located in the Servers\Redist\2.0 folder on the SQL Server 2005 Setup media

I've tried this solution but when I've run Dotnetfx.exe, nothing has happened: the console has appeared for a while and then it has disappeared without showing any components to unistall.

Can anyone there help me?

Thank you very much.

|||I faced the same issue
my work around is exactly the same...it already has the .NET framework 2.0 isntalled...Windows 2k3 Server SP1...pls let me know how to resolve this issue ASAP
|||

Whoa, this was more than 1 year ago. I don't even work for that company anymore.

Well...going back to my issue, as far as I remember I had to re-burn de DVD using another dvd-burner (a different pc). If that doesn't work then you can try by mounting the .iso (you'll may have to download another software in order to perform this action)

And if you're talking about the beta/old versions then you only have to uninstall it.

I hope this helps.

|||I am having this same issue with a new build of server 2003, and sql server 2005 on a VMware virtual machine.
SQL server has installed, and works ok. But i need to install some additional components. When i run the install to add the new components i get the Error 87 while installing .NET 2.0
I have tried uninstalling .net, and running setup again but it does the same thing.

There are lots of posts on the internet but no definitive solutions. Re-burning a DVD doesnt make sense to me, its the same ISO i used to install it that i'm using to add components and its still doing it. Does anyone have a definitive answer to solve this? Its driving me nuts!!

Error 29506. SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions

Received the following error while installing SP2

MSI (s) (D8!A0) [21:07:09:062]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -- Error 29506. SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions on file C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\ for user Administrator. To proceed, verify that the account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist, that the account running SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and that exists on the destination drive.

Tried running install with a domain account and local account with same results.

Based on the error message, I checked permission on the drive and still received the same error.

Followed resolution based on KB 916766, this did not resolve the error.

Only possible resolution I found was to disable UAP, reboot and retry the install. This will be done as a last resort, but any other suggestion will be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Microsoft MVP, Visual Developer - Visual C#Hello Peter,
I would like to know whether you have installed SQL Express on your
machine. I searched our internal database and found that a lot of similar
issue were caused by the corruption installation of SQL Express.
My suggestion is that you need to remove the SQL Express and then reinstall
the SQL Reporting Services 2000.
Please let me know if this helps.

Hi Agostino,

Please check the file at C:\programmi\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files\SQLSetup0001_JIMMY_SQL.log to see if it offers additional information.

I'm moving this to the setup form so they can troubleshoot for you.

|||Typically, the "Strong name signature verification" error has something to do with a corrupt package (possibly during download, transfer across network, etc). Can you try to download the package one more time and try again? Also, for future debugging help, are you trying to install the Italian SQL Express on an English OS or an Italian OS?

error 193 installing .net framework 2.0

Hi,
I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 and I receive the "error 193 installing .net framework 2.0"
I got the same error when try to install the 32 bits SQL Server 2005 SE which I downloaded from MSDN. I got the same error even after I tried to install .Net Framework separately.
I tried the Developer Edition and there is no such error.

Is there something special with the SE CD?|||Hi,

what I did:

1.) Disabled the extended IE security on the Win2K3 server (saw that on another post)
2.) Installed .net Framework 2.0 from Windows Update
3.) Reboot

After that everything worked fine... No idea which of the 3 did the trick...|||Update:

No, it didn't work... I got the error message that IIS wasn't completely configured... I forgot to do so... After adding ASP.net to IIS the setup wants to install .net 2.0 again. No idea why. Even repairing the .net installation didn't help.
What I noticed is that all the graphics in the pre-setup screens are missing... Perhaps this has something to do with that...|||Are you using virtual machines? I am using VMware and found that my problem is an corrupted iso file. MY problem was resolved after I recreate the iso file.

So the error may be due to a bad installation media.|||How to disable the extended IE security on the Win2k3 server|||I thought disabling Extended IE Security would help (see my earlier post) but it didn't. It was a Virtual PC, I finally got it running not by using Developer Edition but Enterprise Edition... I also did a new download of the software (from MSDN) because I wasn't able to read the complete disk from the image. But that didn't help... My guess is a problem with VirtualPC... But I'm not sure...|||

I was trying to install SQL 2005 Developer edition to winXP sp2 on a virtual machine and got the same error. THen I downloaded framework 2 from win update and got the same error. Now I setup a virtual pc with Server 2003 enterprise sp1 disabled IE extended security and got the same error. So it might not be the problem (it is logical as ie on XP doesn;t have extended security).Right now I am updating that Virtual PC (server 2003 enterprise) with framework 2 . I'll reboot it and if that doesn't work I;ll change profession!!

It doesn't work still! I also get the problem where the graphics are not displayed like if an ActiveX control is missing.

|||Hi everybody, too many boys now angry with this problem.. and too many versions of this problem

this is mine:

1. i have.net framework 2.0 and i haveMs visual studio 2005 .
2. i tried to installMs SQL server 2005 Developer edition.
in first step [Server components, tools, Books Online, and samples] the installation sayas that net FRM 2.0 and support files required.
3. i click the install button and wow!! "error 193 installation Net Framework 2.0."
i cant understand, i havenet framework 2.0 and it cant install it. :S

i uninstalled all visual studio 2005 and net framework 2.0 and all other sql services.

and the same problem appears again.

Note: i run the installation program from full DVD [includes x86 x64 and itanium]

and no servers are running while installations.
i closed antivirus and firewall programmes while installation.
but the same error - that damned "error 193"

and please help me, and feel good to help a good boy :)

If the install media is not a problem. How about trying to clean up the registry settings created by SQL2005.

Uninstall .net framwork 2.0 and also makie sure that your settings for the tmp folder is correct, clean up the temp and tmp folders

|||Map the DVD to a mapped drive in the virtual machine, ie the DVD is in the host OS, not in the VM. Run the setup.exe from the mapped drive. All is well after that.|||

ya boys.... thanks everybody.. and Yo123 thaks..

it is fine now.

let me say what i did:

1. i copy the full DVD to my local computer. like this --> c:\sql_detup_files

2. then i uninstalled the sql server and all components

3. and... try again to install sql server -- correct the instance names bla bla

4. then everything ok.

I believe your installation file was corrupted:

Please check if the file is corrupted in SQL2005\redist\2.0\dotnetfx.exe

|||I also had the same issue and running a repair on .net 2.0 fixed it.
