Huh?
I'm afraid you didn't catch the fact that this is a SQL Server DB.
SQL Server doesn't work like that.
What exactly is the SQL statement that is bombing out doing?
Have you tried running profiler when this occurs?|||Check this general guide how to troubleshoot the 80004005 error as well:

Error 7399: OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' reported an error.

Hello everyone!
I try to setup a linked server connection to an other SQL Server and receive
the following error message:
Error 7399: OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' reported an error.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' IDBInitialize::Initialize
returned 0x80004005: ].
I am using a trusted connection.
Does anybody have an idea what I am doing wrong here? Or how I can get a
more specific error message?
Thanks for any hints!
brgds,
tom.Hi Thomas:
Please see the KB article, it may be useful:

Error 7399: OLE DB provider Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 reported an error.

I tried to make one with following options in enterprise manager:

Server type: Other data source
Provider name: test
Product name: Access 2000
Data source: c:\db\test.mdb
Provider string: Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0

When I try to access the linked server tables I receive following error:
Error 7399: OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error.

When I try to make a view (select * from linkedserver1...table) I receive following error:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server][OLE/DB provider returned message: Disk or network error.]

Can anyone help me? the only thing I want to do is link an access table to SQL Server (NOT sql server table in access but access table in sql server!)Have you definately got the paths setup right?

'c:\db\test.mdb' needs to be on the SQL Server machine itself and has the system got the correct permissions to access the mdb file.

If you check this and this is all OK then is it not a possibility to import your table into SQL Server?|||make sure that u are connected to you Domain Server.
and that u make a System DSN (best solution in DSN) correctly to your SQL Server.

hope this will help u

Tulpe,
This looks like your SQL Server is actually passing you through to a linked
server for a Jet database (Access). Is that what is happening? If so,

Error 7356 - do we have to live with that?

To resolve a well know issue with quering a linked server:
(OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' supplied inconsistent metadata. An extra column
was supplied during execution that was not found at compile time.
OLE DB error trace [Non-interface error: OLE DB provider returned an extra
column at execution time: ProviderName=.....)
I change the table name to a view returning all columns of the same table.
I have been doing this since SQL 7.0.
1. Is it an unfixable bug we have to live with?
2. Is there a better way of fixing the problem other than creating a view?
Thanks,
-StanHi Stan,
What is your SQL Server version? Is it SQL Server 7.0 SP4 or SQL Server
2000 SP3?
From your post, I am not sure about the steps to reproduce the problem.
Could you post it so that I can check further?

||||Hi Stan,
I have found several articles regarding error "OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB'
supplied inconsistent metadata. An extra column was supplied during
execution that was not found at compile time." However, for SQL Server 7.0,
there is an article.
266337 PRB: Some SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 2 Updates Must be Added
Manually
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=266337
However, I did not find any known issue regarding the same error on SQL
Server 2000. According to your description, it seems that the problem also
occurs on SQL Server 2000. Am I right? Since the problem randomly occurs,
it is very difficult to troubleshoot. However, please try the following
steps first:
1. The output from running "sp_helpserver" from the SQL Server 2000 machine
and the name of the linked server which encounters the problem.
2. Does dropping the linked server and adding it back work?
3. The output from the Component Checker from SQL Server 2000.

According to my research, we need to install Service pack 4 and also apply
the Instcat.sql manually.

Error 7303 Could not initialize data source object of OLE DB provi

I am trying to link to an AS400 server. When I set up the link I am getting
Error 7303 Could not initialize data source object of OLE DB provider.
I know that there are problably parameters that I need to add to the
connection but am not sure where to start. Can someone help me troubleshoot
this issue?
Install Client Access on the SQL Server box and make sure
you have the client updated with whatever service pack level
based on updates to the AS400. Then configure the linked
server as described in books online under Linked Servers,
configuring.
For data source, use the IP address of the AS400.
For provider string, you need to include the library you are
using, connect timeout setting and code page. There is some
documentation for the settings in the Client Access help
files.
You'd set the provider string somewhat like:
InitCat=YourLibrary;CCSID=37;PCCodePage=1252;
Data Source=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Settings will depend on how your AS400 is configured. Again,
the Client Access help files have information on the
necessary connection string settings.

Error 534 trying to run report

I have written a report in the Crystal IDE that runs fine. It is using OLE DB to a SQL Server database. When I then try to run that report at runtime, outside of Crystal, I get an error 534 returned. I am using the CPRE32 API and I am using version 8.5.Try looking up the error number or error description on www.google.com or on Crystal's Website: http://support.businessobjects.com/search/advsearch.asp|||I have done both of those. There is quite a bit of good information out there. But none of it so far has helped me. I recently tried switching from using P2SOLEDB.DLL to P2SSQL.DLL just to see what would happen, but I still get 534...|||Have you verified database?I usually get error 534 when database verification is needed.|||I will post this info here in hopes that it will help others who search for this problem.

The solution to my 534 problem was to use the PESetNthTableLocation API call. I had to call Crystal support to get this information.

The problem was caused by my changing database names at runtime.

I wrote all my reports to report on database "A", so to Crystal, the database "location" was "A.dbo.tablename". Then, at runtime, if the user of my application was running the reports on database "B", I was calling PESetNthTableLogOnInfo and setting the database to "B". However, according to Crystal support, sometimes that is not enough. Sometimes you also have to change the database location. So, once I called PESetNthTableLocation (setting it to "B.dbo.tablename") in addition to PESetNthTableLogOnInfo, it worked fine...
